It looks as though the Playstation Vita is off to a great start—and it hasn’t even been released yet. A recent survey by Sony shows that approximately two out of every three people (63% to be exact) who currently own a PS3 console plan to get the upcoming Playstation Vita handheld within a year and a half of being released. What’s more, 60% of those who own a PSP are interested in doing the same. The news came from Sony’s Playstation director of hardware marketing.

Sony’s Michael Ephraim was asked how he thought the Playstation 3, which was released back in 2006, would compete against the soon to be released Wii U:
“It’s very hard because at E3 there wasn’t a lot of information [about the Wii U]. There’s plenty of question marks about our competitor with their new device,” said Mr. Ephraim. “Whether it is going to be a competitor to PS3 or a different kind of device. There are so many variables that it’s hard to say right now.” According to Mr. Ephraim, a key factor as to how successful the Wii U will be is the cost. “With a tablet type of controller, just looking at the technology and what they showed at E3, it’s not going to be priced at the normal Wii customer.”
